Day 1653 - Blue Roses, I'm a Poet

It has now been just over a month since Kerry the Cocktail and MerryAnne walked away from the BRS and the TWOM blog. As they left, the pair decided for some reason to block me from viewing their twitter accounts, and if I am honest, I've not given them any further thought since.

The reason that I am mentioning the two former BRS members today, is because it has been brought to my attention that a rather interesting anonymous comment has been left on their TRAP WORM blog. The blog entry; which is entitled Sister I'm a Poet, and is about poets that inspired Morrissey, is written by MerryAnne. Here is the anonymous comment that was left approximately 2 hours after the article was published:

Anonymous 22 March 2016 at 21:33 -

Many believe Morrissey wrote Sister I’m a Poet with The Glass Menagerie by Tennesee Williams in mind, whilst others say certain lines are inspired by the Patric Doonan film All Over The Town. While Morrissey rarely mentions Williams in interviews, there exists an instrumental demo from the Southpaw Grammar-era (Miraval recordings), featuring a sample looped from an old radio recording of The Glass Menagerie. In the play itself, a young man named Tom is unfulfilled with his drab warehouse job that must be endured to support his wilting mother Amanda (Williams had a fascination with passé Southern belles) and limping sister Laura in their dreary apartment. Tom spends sleepless nights wandering all over town, claiming to frequent cinemas, but is more likely frequenting bars and getting himself into all sorts of trouble, much to the ignorance of the ladies in the household. Tom appears rather well-read and aspires to become a poet, often jotting poems down in the loos at work whilst taking breaks from the mind-numbing grind of manual labour. His coworker, Jim, refers to Tom as ‘Shakespeare.’
Meddling mother Amanda wants to try and marry off her daughter, but Laura spends most of her time avoiding life and polishing her collection of miniature glass animals (well, who can really blame her?). It so happens that Laura’s nickname in school was ‘Blue Roses,’ a name bestowed upon her by a jock who caught her eye. In fact, the theme of blue roses figures quite prominently throughout the play. To make a seven-scene play short, Tom sets Laura up with his co-worker Jim, and it turns out Jim is the jock she admired during her school years. Jim visits the apartment and Laura spends most of her time, naturally, hiding. He doesn’t realize who Laura is until she reminds him of the ‘Blue Roses’ nickname. They kiss as her face is washed in the rose silk of a fancy lamp acquired by Amanda to seal the deal, but alas, it was not meant to be.

TENNESSEE WILLIAMS

Needless to say, I had never read/seen/listened to The Glass Menagerie (TGM), but the anonymous comment; which is obviously posted by a member of the Blue Rose Society, grabbed my attention, so last night I decided to listen to a 1951 radio broadcast of the play, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There is a world full of plays/films/books that I know nothing of, which I fully intend to explore in later life... there is no rush. I actually got around to watching Cocteau's Orpheus the other week! Anyway, I digress.

None of the lyrics to Sister, I'm a Poet seem to have been influenced by Williams's TGM, but there is no doubt that the title of the song may very well have been. Simon Goddard's Mozipedia makes no mention of TGM, and seems to think the song title was something to do with Morrissey's own sister, which goes to show, how little Goddard knows. The fact that a Morrissey song was (possibly) influenced by a play that has a character called Blue Roses, is yet another piece to our jigsaw; not that the BRS was in existence in 1988 when Sister, I'm a Poet was released, but the connection of blue roses to Morrissey just keep popping up.

There are other points mentioned by 'Anon' that I find interesting. I have never seen the Patric Doonan film, All Over The Town (add it to the list), and have also never heard it mentioned as a possible influence for Sister before. I had previously read on PJLM of the instrumental from the Southpaw era with the sample of The Glass Menagerie, but according to PJLM, the sample was supposedly taken from the 1950 film adaptation starring Kirk Douglas, whereas 'Anon' has stated that it was an old radio recording. The use of the words 'jock' and 'co-worker' lead me to believe that 'Anon' is an American or Canadian member of the BRS.... Heather? Jaz? or perhaps even MerryAnne herself? Whoever 'anon' may be, it is certainly an interesting comment.

Meanwhile, back in The Arms, there have been a few brief appearances by Our Mozzer aka @BRSChairman this week:

SUNDAY 21ST

"Make them breed, make them work, and when they're past working or breeding or begetting, slaughter them"

I presume the above tweet was an add-on to the TTY statement made the same day about the British monarchy, entitled A-Hunting We Will Go!. I guess that once they have been slaughtered, OM would have them be buried in council car parks.... and why not!

KING RICHARD III - BURIED IN A COUNCIL CAR PARK IN LEICESTER

WEDNESDAY 23RD

"Zayn Malik is a pop star in his head and his bedroom. But not in the recording studio."

"G'day"

THURSDAY 24TH

"Wouldn't it be nice to be on the land of skippy and Home and Away. I must book a holiday."

In response to @mancladmozfan tweeting, "indeed a bit of R and R before the April tour kicks off": "I much prefer June"

So, does this mean Morrissey is currently in Australia, or is perhaps heading there? And is OM suggesting that the previously mentioned tour  is now happening in June?

And what is happening about running for London Mayor? The nomination procedure began on March 21st, and finishes a week today. I think that it is probably fair to say, that Morrissey's serious consideration period has now ended.

I shall sign off today, with The Mozziah's last tweet, which was posted at 2.17 this afternoon:

"Most of you say things that you think will make me have empathy. There is little truth in the conversations I have. Be yourself."

Day 1650 - #MozBoz25

In early March 1991, Morrissey released his second solo studio album, Kill Uncle, and decided that after a break of four years, he was at last ready to return to touring. Morrissey put together a band consisting of rockabillies: Alain Whyte, Gary Day, Spencer Cobrin, and twenty eight year old Martin 'Boz' Boorer, and the band set about learning and rehearsing songs from Kill Uncle, along with other Morrissey compositions from the previous three years, and a few cover songs. In late April, the band hit the road.

TH' LADS AND MORRISSEY - DUNDEE MAY 1991

Fast forward twenty five years, and following the recording of eight studio albums, many singles, numerous television shows and 932 concerts, the only constant for Morrissey amongst numerous changes to band and entourage personnel, has been.... Boz!

Boz Boorer

Along the way, there have been many ups and downs, but through thick and thin, Boz has remained by Morrissey's side, whether it be in novelty t-shirts, kilts, dresses, with broken bones, or just a seven incher to protect his modesty.

Over the past twenty five years, Boz has written the music for countless numbers of songs, 42 of which Morrissey has put words to, and we the public have gotten to hear - there may of course be more which we haven't yet heard. Choosing a favourite among those 42 is near on impossible, but as a celebration of #MozBoz25, I have decided to invite my readers (whether BRS members or not) to vote for their 10 favourites;  giving 1 pt to the 10th favourite, 2 for 9th, 3 for 8th, 4 for 7th, 5 for 6th, 6 for 5th, 7 for 4th, 8 points for 3rd favourite, and then in true Eurovision tradition, 10 points for 2nd favourite and douze point (12) for 1st. I appreciate that favourites change all the time, but voting should be based on how you feel about each song right here, right now.

I shall start the ball rolling, and will update the leader board as others vote. The frustration and guilt I feel by leaving certain songs out of my Top 10 is rather pathetic, but I expect all other voters to feel exactly the same way. So here goes: I award 1 point to Staircase At The University, 2 for Come Back To Camden, 3 for Black Cloud, 4 for Jack The Ripper, 5 points go to Speedway, 6 for Maladjusted, 7 for Oboe Concerto, 8 points for I Like You, 10 points to Now My Heart Is Full and my maximum 12 goes to The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores.

Day 1648 - Faces of a beautiful and secret society

This blog has been rewarded with its' very own official Morrissey t-shirt... but more about that later.

There have been a number of TTY entries over the past few days, and appearances in The Wrong Arms from the pessoas, Not Bot and Mademoiselle Fifi.

The TTY articles have covered a variety of subjects, as follows:
1) A link to a two year old story about New Zealand recognising animals as sentient beings - which is presumably in relation to Morrissey's possible London Mayor candidacy for the Animal Welfare Party
2) A photograph of a banner at Mancapitalist City Football Ground which reads ' Manchester... So Much To Answer For'
3) An article about 'Prince' William the Terrible
4) A photo montage of Marilyn Monroe by Sam Esty Rayner
5) A photo montage of Marilyn Monroe embracing Sam by 'Steven-patrick'
6) An article entitled 'If Prince William Were Black'
7) An article entitled 'All The Best Ones Are Dead'

Marilyn Monroe Embraces Sam Esty Rayner (Morrissey's Nephew) Photomontage By Steven-Patrick
MARILYN AND SAM BY 'STEVEN-PATRICK' - PRESUMABLY THE WORK OF MORRISSEY, AND FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MONTAGES BY OUR MOZZER ON THE MORRISSEYSWORLD BLOG

Yesterday's TTY article, entitled All The Best Ones Are Dead, was brought to the attention of the Dreary Deluded Dozen by Mademoiselle Fifi, who posted a link to it in The Arms (before anyone else in my timeline had tweeted it) and followed it up with another tweet that related to the article. The follow up tweet was a photo of James Dean with Richard Davalos, and  a hashtag of 'SecretSociety', which were words used in the TTY article. Here is the article in full:

"It's very difficult for me, I think, to live now, in this electronic age of atrocity. We are fed nothing but carnage and ruin, and we must digest these images and thoughts every single day ... so is it any wonder we all look slightly terrorised ... this stupid civilization of advertising, advertising, advertising ... things that nobody wants. It's hard to maintain indifference and to not respond. Finally, nothing connects with anything. Even to have imagination suddenly seems hopeless because pop music has become so impoverished and obsessed only with very, very stupid people. It's fascinating to consider how Radio One once interviewed William Burroughs! These days the program planners at Radio One would pass on William Burroughs in favor of Little Boots. So it's a bit like trying to deal with people who have nothing but actually want even less than they have. Therefore I look at Richard Davalos and James Dean not as faces from a more simplistic time, but as faces of a beautiful and secret society. You cannot say that about anyone in 2016."

Richard Davalos And James Dean 1

The mention in the TTY article of Little Boots made me smile, because Morrissey surely meant Little Mix. Morrissey would no doubt claim that he wouldn't know the difference, but Lancastrian Victoria Hesketh aka Little Boots, is actually a talented musician, who incidentally I once saw play an excellent set at the IW Festival. Little Boots hasn't been on Radio 1 in years, as pointed out by @littleboots herself on twitter yesterday, when she tweeted, "Moz obviously hasn't listened to radio 1 recently...". I should add, that Little Mix are utter shite!

LITTLE BOOTS PERFORMING AT THE IW FESTIVAL 2010

Coincidentally, both Little Boots and William Burroughs have both previously been referenced in this blog of mine, with Little Boots's song Remedy getting a mention on Day 15, and Burroughs being quoted on Day 1106; when I referred to his quote, "In this magical universe there are no coincidences and there are no accidents. Nothing happens unless someone wills it to happen." I'm not too sure that I agree with Burroughs about accidents only happening through someone willing them, but there can only be a certain number of coincidences happen before they stop being coincidences, and become someones will...

... and on that subject, let me introduce the official Mozziah t-shirt, available from the M Porium website priced at £25, and YES, I have ordered mine already, and am deeply honoured. I can't see many of the Solowers buying one!

I posted a very similar photograph of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey just a couple of months ago, on Day 1612. This latest t-shirt CANNOT be just a coincidence, someone somewhere willed it!

There was nothing else from Mademoiselle Fifi, and the only postings from Not Bot (Not Astra's Derrière), were a couple of photos of Françoise Hardy posted on Wednesday.

In other news, it has been announced that Jack Lowden is to play the part of Morrissey in the soon-to-be-made story called Steven, about Morrissey's early life. God only knows how much of this thing will be based on fact, and how much is completely made up. No doubt a certain someone will let us know.

JACK LOWDEN

And finally, in the week that Morrissey laments the death of both pop music and connection, I travelled to Camden Roundhouse and watched Savages, which has not only convinced me that popular music does still have a pulse, but also that connections can still be made, and in fact, can be electric.... it just doesn't happen very often!

Rather ironically, the person who first introduced me to Savages back in September 2014 was.... the Morrissey pessoa Alfs Button.

Day 1644 - Leprosy

All has been fairly quiet over the past few days, with just a few brief appearances in The Arms by Our Mozzer.  Here are his words of wisdom and wit:

SATURDAY MARCH 12

11.26PM - "Fun, games, fun, games. Nun, shame, nun, shame. Shun, fame, shun, fame."

SUNDAY MARCH 13

11.20PM - "I wish leprosy upon Mike Joyce"

11.28pm - "Luckily he never needs to work again in his life. My only hope is that he doesn't outlive me."

MIKE JOYCE

OM had presumably brought up the subject of Joyce because earlier in the day, Joyce had tweeted to say that he had never listened to a Morrissey solo album, but agreed to listen to one for the Ram Album Club and review it; on the proviso that he didn't have to buy the album! Does Joyce really think that anyone believes that he hasn't listened to EVERY Morrissey solo album? Twat!

MONDAY MARCH 14

7.47PM - "Stephen Fry is to Oscar Wilde what Victoria Beckham is to talent"

9.13PM - In response to Marcus the Greek asking who his favourite actor is: "Morrissey circa 1982-1987"

10.01PM - "Seen things are sweet but unseen is more significant"

I replied to the last tweet by saying, "Exactly why I keep mine hidden", to which OM responded, "From what I've heard you need no help in keeping it hidden."

ME ON HOLIDAY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO

Right, that's it! I'm off to watch the T20 Cricket World Cup and to grow a beard.... and as both the MorrisseysWorld & TWOM chatrooms have closed down, I have now created one for the BRS to use here (See below).

*Goes off singing* When I find Mike Joyce in times of trouble, Mozziah Mozzer comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, leprosy. And in Mike's hour of darkness, Moz is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, leprosy. Leprosy, leprosy, leprosy, leprosy, whisper words of wisdom, leprosy.

Day 1640 - The Last of the Famous International Chess Players

Our Mozzer has made a couple of visits to The Wrong Arms in the past few days, and yesterday evening's visit saw him bring a friend with him.... Mundane Glamour. When I say a friend, what I actually mean is pessoa. Ever since Mundane Glamour first arrived in The Arms on January 1st, I have been battling with myself trying to work out if she was either: A) A Morrissey pessoa B) Someone Morrissey knew or C) Somebody pretending to be a Morrissey pessoa. There has never been a D)... there rarely ever is.

Right from the start, Mundane G insisted that they were  NOT a Morrissey pessoa, but as Mandy Rice-Paper once said, "he would, wouldn't he", and as Judge Pileofuntouchedsandwiches once said, "to me at least he appeared devious, truculent and unreliable where his own interests were at stake."

JUDGE JOHN WEEKS QC - IMAGE CURTESY OF MORRISSEYSWORLD

By January 12th, I had concluded that Mundane Glamour "MUST be someone Morrissey knows", and wondered if it were Linder. On January 26th, I mused if perhaps Mundane G was Kevin 'Walter Ego' Marrinan, the man who Our Mozzer once described as, "one of the so-low trolls...I pay to write nonsense all over the so-low site and do the odd internet-based jobs for me".

On February 9th, Mundane Glamour deactivated their twitter account. The very next day, after a two month absence, Our Mozzer reappeared in the guise of BRS Chairman, which pretty much confirmed to me that Mundane WAS, after all, a Morrissey pessoa. If I'm honest, I didn't think we would see Mundane again but, as I have already mentioned, yesterday evening, she returned. Here are the highlights of the evening's proceedings, which began at 8.43pm and ended at 9.49pm.

BRS CHAIR: "Imagine entering a competition for an unnamed prize. Imagine winning and the prize is free tickets to Mumford and Sons."

(Ed - I have to confess that although I have heard of Mumford and Sons, I have never heard ANY of their songs, and yet apparently they have had two Number 1 albums! I'm not quite sure how I have completely managed to avoid them, but then again, I have also managed to avoid everything to do with the Kardashians, and wouldn't recognise any of them.)

BRS CHAIR: "Imagine your mum being Denise Welch. You'd probably form a Fall Out Boy tribute act."

(Ed - I have also never heard a single song by Fall Out Boy, and wouldn't know who they were if they passed me in the street, but I do know who Denise Welch is.... but what I didn't know until I just googled her, is that her son is the lead singer of a group called The 1975; who I have also never heard a single song by, but must presume must sound like a Fall Out Boy tribute band. I sometimes wonder if I live under a rock.)

ACTRESS DENISE WELCH AND HER SON, MATT, WHO IS APPARENTLY A SINGER!

BRS CHAIR: "Do you ever get the feeling that you've been cheated? Rotten luck."
MUNDANE G: "Well that also happens a lot round here."
BRS CHAIR: "Welcome and please f*** off"
MUNDANE G: "Such a sweet reply"

MUNDANE G: "Sorry for the de-activation. I've been playing chess in my prison cell."

MUNDANE G: "Sorry, just flexing my intellectual muscle. More Bernard Cribbins than Bernard Shaw"

BRS CHAIRMAN: "Yield to the fright"

On Wednesday, the BRS Chairman popped in very briefly to The Arms to pick up on a comment made by Manc Lad. Manc Lad had left the following comment in response to OM's tweet of Tuesday about banning refugees: "@BRSChairman careful about the refugee statement the racist accusing finger is very long, it gives plebs something to do". In reply to Manc Lad, OM wrote, "race is a social construct therefore racism doesn't exist." I picked up on this comment, and said, "A very interesting and logical way to look at it, but how do you explain the actions of those such as Hitler?" OM replied, "well the Jews are not a race.."

And finally, Smiths cover star Richard Davalos has died. In Morrissey's Autobiography, Moz details how Davalos gave him a ring and sent him a number of "beautifully printed letters". There was obviously a special connection between the pair.

*Goes off singing* Dear hero imprisoned, with all the new moves that you are perfecting, oh I can't help castling you

Day 1639 - On the fish rampage

Our Mozzer paid a visit to The Wrong Arms on Tuesday evening, and was back to his caustic, cutting, no-punches-pulled best. Here is what he had to say:

"The multitude perceive practically nothing"

"Democracy breeds tyranny. That and Piers Morgan on television"

In response to @DallesandroJoe tweeting, "It should be International Women's Day everyday until women are treated equally and with more respect than they get": "Well you say that but have you ever seen Loose Women? They all need to be sterilised"

(Ed - I would say that it is a fairly safe bet that Californian based, Warhol Superstar, Joe Dallesandro has NOT seen Loose Women!)

"My first act as Mayor will be to ban meat. Henceforth Merkel is banned. As are those refugees she used as meat for political gain."

HERR MERKEL AND THE REFUGEES - BANNED

"Please don't think I care about your feelings when you cannot ascertain the pain I suffer when I discover a soggy cucumber"

In response to @NME tweeting, "Adele surprises fans on the first night of her '25' tour in Manchester": "By not being an ugly, coma inducing, bitch?"

ADELE - UGLY COMA INDUCER

In response to @justinbieber tweeting a photo of his new t-shirts with the slogan OUT NOW: "@justinbieber I don't think you'll ever be 'out now'."

"Losing ones hair is a most distressing position. I have Gregg Wallace and Matt Lucas for company. Where's the rope?

L TO R: WALLACE & LUCAS

"@ladygaga sings like a horse, looks like a horse, and probably eats like a horse. If Frankie Dettori needs a new ride..."

TWINS - WHY THE LONG FACE?

In response to me tweeting, "Imagine if Morrissey recruited a campaign team of @rickygervais @brigitte_bardot @pamfoundation (Pamela Anderson) @rustyrockets (Russell Brand) etc - hashtag LondonMayor": "More chance of me campaigning with Hitler than Ricky humane meat."

In response to me tweeting, "@BRSChairman You don't think Ricky has a love of animals?": "Only himself."

HITLER AND BLONDI

Our Mozzer's mention of Hitler and Gervais in relation to animal welfare is quite interesting. Despite Hitler's hatred for many humans; particularly jews, who he happily gassed, he was an avid animal lover, and also a visionary; stating in 1941, "there's one thing I can predict to eaters of meat: the world of the future will be vegetarian", and according to a diary entry made by Joseph Goebbels in 1942, Hitler intended to "tackle the problem" of meat eating after the war. It is hard to say how Europe would currently look if Germany had won World War II, but there is a very good chance that we would all be vegetarians, and animals would be respected members of society.

Ricky Gervais is a prominent campaigner for animal welfare, and yet he eats meat; although he is quick to point out that he only eats fish, but it is meat none the less, which is obviously why he has come under attack from Our Mozzer.

Some people find it hard to comprehend how people such as Morrissey and Hitler can value the life of an animal over that of a human, but I find it perfectly normal, totally acceptable, and I agree with it, albeit with a different take. Morrissey (and many other vegetarians/vegans) seems to hold the view that you cannot love animals if you eat them, but that is like saying you cannot love a human if you don't love ALL humans. I care far more about the welfare of my dog (who currently has ligament damage to his knee) than I do about the six million human occupants of Kyrgyzstan, and when my favourite cat was killed by a car, I took a week off work, whereas on the day my brother died, I was at my desk.

To say that me, Ricky Gervais, and anyone who eats meat can't love animals is nonsense, but what I do concede is that I am indifferent towards some animals, just as I am indifferent towards the vast majority of human beings. I love my nearest and dearest; whether they be human or animal, I respect most of the human and animal world, and I am indifferent towards the likes of fish, Katie Price, Belgians, chickens, Yvette Cooper, Lynn Bowles, the Kardashians, Graham Norton, Oliver Letwin, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses and Southampton fans. Actually, that's not entirely true, I f***ing HATE Yvette Cooper, and would happily feed her to the fishes.

Day 1638 - Living on video

Astra has made an unexpected return to the corridors of FTM, leaving comments over the weekend on  Day 1633. Apart from that visit from Astra, all has been quiet in the world of Moz, with no pessoas in The Wrong Arms, and no sightings of Moz in Irish pubs. There has been no further word as to whether or not Morrissey will accept the offer from the Animal Welfare Party to run for the office of Mayor of London, but Ladbrokes currently have Moz at 500/1 to win, whereas rather bizarrely they have the despicable, self-promoting cunt, George Galloway at just 50/1..... Actually, as Galloway thinks he's a cat, perhaps he will stand down and back Morrissey.

THE DESPICABLE GEORGE GALLOWAY & PETE 'THE POUT' BURNS

Rather intriguingly, a comment was left on my last blog entry by an Alexandra Jennings Cronin, who claims to be the youngest grandchild of the novelist, A J Cronin. Alexandra gives an excellent theory of her grandfather's novel, Hatter's Castle being another possible influence for the song Staircase At the University. Alexandra also claims to not be a fan of Morrissey, but seems to know an awful lot about his pessoas, and also made reference to Astra's Longer Than my Never story posted on FTM last November. Alexandra signed off with: *ΚΑΤΑ*ΤΟΝ*ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ*ΕΑΥΤΟΥ*, which is obviously some sort of code, but I'm jiggered if I know what it means.

A J CRONIN

As my regular regular readers know,  I do love a chart - especially Morrissey related; although I can't say that I have any interest in charts depicting kittens or cardigans. I like music charts, so over the weekend, I decided to trawl through Youtube, to see how many 'views' each of the videos for Morrissey's singles had received, and then put my findings into a chart. Where it warrants, fan-made videos are included:

PAMELA ANDERSON IN THE SPOKEN PROMO VIDEO

There are no official or fan-made videos on Youtube for any of the following singles. If someone were to bother making videos for them, they would no doubt get a large number of views:

PICCADILLY PALARE

THE MORE YOU IGNORE ME, THE CLOSER I GET

HOLD ONTO YOUR FRIENDS

ROY'S KEEN

SATAN REJECTED MY SOUL

REDONDO BEACH

SOMETHING IS SQUEEZING MY SKULL

SATELLITE OF LOVE (LIVE)

Special mention should be made of a fan made video for the song, MY DEAREST LOVE (b side to All You Need Is Me) 177,597 - Loaded by sdsuedehead's channel on Dec 2 2011 (set to a scene from the film Love Story) and an official video for GANGLORD (featured on the maxi single of  The Youngest Was the Most Loved) 40,459 - Loaded by MozLuv59 on Mar 8 2010.

There are also fan made videos for all of the songs featured on the LP, World Peace is None of Your Business. Here is the chart showing the most popular fan made video for each song, which rather surprisingly has a song from the bonus cd as Number 1.
